Wildlife Officers are mainly involved in the enforcement of wildlife conservation legislation. The objective of the legislation is the conservation of flora and fauna in the wild. The work covers:
- Inspection of bird dealers' premises
- Inspection of kangaroo processing establishments
- Inspection of kangaroo carcass chiller units
- Overseeing activities of licensed bird trappers
- Overseeing professional kangaroo shooters
- Investigating applications for licences
- Regulation of open seasons
- Monitoring flora and fauna populations
- Co-ordinating the rescue of injured fauna
- Providing assistance and advice to the public on wildlife matters
