DEC endeavours to support its staff with training, safety and support programs, career development opportunities, as well as promote continual improvement, teamwork and flexibility to its workforce. DEC is actually a Registered Training Organisation, which means staff and trainees gain on-the-job experience under the guidance of certified trainers and are able to obtain a Technical and Further Education qualification.
DEC also has a comprehensive and inclusive trainee and employment scheme. A particular focus is the commitment to the employment of Indigenous people and aim to have 10 to 15 per cent of DEC’s entire workforce made up of Aboriginal people by 2013. This joint management initiative was a Government priority in terms of reconciliation and providing long-term, secure employment for Indigenous Western Australians.
